why it’s worth the money
When I moved to New York for college in 2000, walking into the Helmut Lang store in SoHo was formative. I found my favorite scent for life in that store and have worn it ever since.
The Helmut Lang tagline was “I smell you on my skin,” and it was the first perfume I’d read about that’s meant to interact with your body heat. The musk fuses with your skin’s oils and minerals to create your own body chemistry, and that was really appealing to me.
The brand stopped producing fragrances years ago, then the brand was sold, then the new owners released a new version, which did not hold up. I currently have this precious bottle and two others wrapped in foil in my fridge, which will hopefully last me a few decades.
I am interested in all discourse regarding discontinued perfumes — please share your stories. This fragrance has defined me as an adult, and I can’t possibly put into words how much I love it.
